NaNoWriMo Anyone?

Well, since I have no readers I suppose this is strange, but I keep posting in hopes of. So if anyone is interested I'm hoping to participate in the NaNoWriMo this year. I tried the year before last and got the first 10 days or so, then gave up, but, try, try again, you know.

My attempt this year will be my Tengarra story (as yet unnamed) that I have already written the preface for as well as two character profiles. I plan to do at least Seok and Shula's profiles before November, so look forward to that (or at least I do because there are no readers. I'm really feeling the absence of interest right now.)

Anyway, if anyone is wondering what the NaNoWriMo is there's a handy link for you. National Novel Writers Month has been delegated to November (and you can read all about its history on the site) where you have exactly 30 days to flesh out 50,000 words (the average length of an English novel). The beginning is usually the easiest part, like I said, I got almost halfway through the month on my last attempt. After that it gets more challenging, and the daunting part of that 50,000 really sets in. I will probably fail, but try anyway, on top of studying my Japanese.

Inspiration?

Just in case anyone who reads this blog later (I have absolutely nobody reading it now) is wondering how I come up with the stories I plan to post here, I'll say it right out front... every one of these is a fan fiction. Now before you go and boycott my blog because of that little tidbit, listen to this; I hate reading fan-fics myself, as they are usually horribly written as well as unoriginal, but even though each and every one of my stories start out fan-fic, I assure you, they are thoroughly my own before I post them. In fact if anyone can come up with the story(ies) that I base them off of I give you kudos, because you are very perceptive and probably read a whole hell of a lot (like I do). So please feel free to comment on it if my story seems too similar to something else you've read, because I'll want to know!

Character Profile Series #2

Gijo

There are two sentient races on Tengarra. Loai and humans. Once there was a third race called magicians, but roughly 400 years before this story takes place their race died out. Loai differ from humans in several ways, most noticeably that their ears stick aout from the sides of their hears in long points and their hair colors vary in shade from a light orange color to dark red, while human hair grows predominately in dark brown and black. The loai lifespan is considerably longer than humans' as well.

Gijo is an important part of high priest Cain's party, as he introduced them to Lakin, as well as having connections to high loai society. Outside the group little is known about any of the four members, Cain being the most well known because of his childhood in the temple. The two met after Cain had taken his rights as priest and had once again sneaked off temple grounds to gamble in the local taverns. The two were often seen together at various gambling spots and soon struck up a friendship.

Gijo is actually a nickname, his real name being Zisizohaja. Zisizohaja is a loai word meaning something that is unneeded or useless. His loai mother was at one time a concubine to the emperor, but was thrown out of the palace when her half human son was born. She was often violent with Gijo, and blamed her bastard son for her downfall. She  had an older son, named Kiume, who all but raised Gijo in place of their mother. He was called Ndugu (brother) by Kiume, who refused to call him unwanted.

Being half loai, Gijo did not inherit much from his loai mother save his distinctive red loai hair. Despite this obvious outward marker of his breeding, Gijo does not have the energy of a loai and needs no limiters or seals to interact with humans, most not even seeming to notice his strange hair color at all.

Character Profiles Series #1

Cain Highborn

Cain is a high priest in service to the Three. There are a total of four high priests in the entire temple system, but Cain is unique among them in that he has not dedicated himself to one of the specific gods as the other three high priests have done. Any who have seen him working a temple ceremony or have heard of his incredible gifts with the purification spells and seals that are used in the holy work have no doubt that he is a chosen messenger and servant of the Three.

Cain's personality and actions outside of the formal temple ceremonies led him to be disliked among many of the temple's upper level priests and dedicates. Two of his three fellow high priests firmly believe that he should never have been instated into his current position, but none can deny his abilities, nor can it be said that the Three do not speak to him as they do the other high priests.

It was Cain's arrogant demeanor that gave him the surname Highborn. Little is known of Cain's past, before he appeared at the entrance of Spiral Way Temple as a fourteen year old child. He made few friends among the acolytes and initiates of the temple because of his acerbic tongue and selfish manner, but to the dedicates he showed a side that was completely devoted to the welfare of the temple and the serving of the gods. In these duties not even his most diligent enemies could find fault. His aloofness led most to believe that he was the unwanted child of some rich merchant, or councilor, and many called him the highborn bastard behind his back. Everyone knew better than to call him that to his face.

Making the mystery of his background all the more intriguing, Cain has blond hair. The gold color of his hair was something that had never been seen in Tengarra since the Magicians died out over three hundred years ago. It is said that the pagans, far to the west over the mountains have that color hair and different color skin as well, but as there is no actual documentation that anyone who had set out to cross the harsh mountain ranges had ever succeeded, let alone returned, the speculation that Cain was one of the western pagans soon died. If Cain himself knows his own origin he shows no inclination to tell anyone.

Specs:
Name: Cain Highborn
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Position: High Priest of the Three
Height: 6'
Body Type: Thin, little muscle tone
Hair Color: Blond
Eye Color: Blue
Characteristics: Aloof demeanor though easily angered, generally rude behavior, enjoys activities considered detestable by the temple (gambling, political speculation, fighting)

Preface

When the world started there was nothing. It was a vast emptiness with only light and darkness. Light and dark were different than we know them now; they were not seen as good or evil, they were simply light and darkness, in nothing. Then came the three.

No one knows the origins of the three. There is a rumor among the temple acolytes that not even the three themselves know how they came to be. The priests would kill these whisperings, calling them blasphemous. Are not the three all-powerful? Do they not know better than us? Yet still acolytes will whisper among themselves in the dark of night, and priestlings will believe themselves above such behaviors, until the very ones who dared whisper loudest become the priests that punish such base rumor bearers the most harshly.

Into this void of light and dark the three emerged, fully formed, already in balance. The Lady of Light, and the Lord of Darkness, and the one who came between, the one who men now think evil, the Lord of Death, who kept his brother and sister in balance. It was the three who created the heavens. The Lady of Light set the sun in the sky and the Lord of Darkness chasing his sister's sun from its place with his cloak of night. The Lord of Death created clouds and mountains to keep the light at bay during the day and sowing the stars and moon into the night to keep the darkness from overpowering the light. The three were ever in perfect balance and harmony.

Their creation however, continued of its own accord. The mountains Lord Death had intended to cast shade on the flatlands still rang with the life he had given them. The breathing stone grew a spirit of its own deep within itself, spewing violently into the air with all the lava and ash of the first volcano in the world came this living spirit. The stone of the mountains was not the only thing filled with the life of creation and left to its own devices by the three creators. The air moved and sang through the mountaintops, blew across the seas and formed white topped waves to beat the beaches of the flatlands into submission. The lava from the birth of the spirit of stone spread fire, blazing stronger with assistance from the wind. The clouds, fed by the heat of flame and cooled again by the water, twisted and spun by the strength of the wind grew into the first storm. In this way five created one another. Each had the power to make another stronger, each could weaken another.

The five were not in balance as the three had been. They loved deeply, but shifted their affections easily and fought amongst themselves. Despite these faults, from the five came something the three had not thought to create. the sentient races of earth were born from the five: man, loai, and magicians, fighting and loving and living as fiercely as their forebears. Living more fully than the three had understood life could be.

The five were violent, concussive forces, much more so than their offspring. They caused disaster for their earth-bound children. Without them the three races of earth would be able to keep the balance. The three came to the decision that something must be done about the five so that they would no longer be able to harm the earthen peoples. They could not be killed, Lord Death explained to his brother and sister, for to kill the spirits of the earth would kill the very thing they strove to protect. The five would be bound to the heavens, it was decided, imprisoned within their own home. So the our people were saved by the three from destruction by our own creators.
